At Cedar Creek, we believe that Biblical Counseling is a ministry of the Word by which Christians help others understand and change how their hearts actively respond to God amongst the specific circumstances of life. The goal of counseling is always to restore believers to usefulness in Christ’s Church. We see the counseling process as intensive discipleship regarding a specific issue for a limited duration. The issue may be a specific area of sin or a difficult life circumstance. We believe that true change is the work of the Holy Spirit through the words of Scripture. The reading, studying, and memorization of Scripture is the most important part of counseling, both during the sessions and at home.
We also believe that every Christian is commanded to counsel and minister to each other (Ephesians 4:11-16; Hebrews 3:12-13; 10:19-25; Romans 15:14; Galatians 6:1-2; Colossians 3:16). Therefore, the counseling ministry should not be thought of as the exclusive source of counseling in the church. Rather, it is a group of believers with training to handle especially difficult or specialized cases. It is our desire that all members would seek counseling from one another before pursuing counseling through this ministry.
